A single rose stands in the midst of a dreary grey,
The only remnant of a time long ago,
A reminder of a brighter past.

I sit here day after day,
Doing my very best to keep this rose,
To keep my dream alive.

And thus far I have been successful,
But I know I can’t keep this up,
For time will eventually run out.

And so I take this rose,
And gently dig her out from the dirt,
Leaving the field barren.

I take this chance to start anew;
I till the soil and plant new seeds,
And water the foundation.

Perchance, I can take this opportunity to forget the past,
And place my focus and energy in the present,
So that I might make a better future.
I might take this chance...
